Steps to a Busy Extracurricular Life in College and University

by Sharon Toh

1. Have you decided which extracurricular activities (ECAs) to take up?

YES - go to #3
NO - go to #2

2. Think of what you enjoy doing, or have always wanted to try but never had the chance to. Go to #3.

3. Look for the relevant organisation on your campus in the student handbook, or ask the student council. Is there one that matches your area of interest?

YES - go to #4
NO - go to #7

4. Contact the people in charge, and attend either the first meeting for new recruits, the kickoff meeting for the year, or just any regular club meeting will do. Go to #8.

5. Do you still want to be able to pursue this area as an ECA?

YES - go to #8
NO - go to #6

6. Start again from #2, and this time pick something that somebody else on campus actually enjoys enough to have started a club for it!

7. Find out from the student council office how to go about setting up a new club. Advertise on campus for other students with the same interests, so that you aren't too lonely in your one-person meetings. Go to #8.

8. Mingle with the other members, have fun doing whatever it is your club does, and have a great semester!
